Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Refresh and brighten your skin with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). This noninvasive treatment targets sun damage, brown spots, redness, rosacea, and uneven skin tone to help reveal a clearer, brighter, and more even complexion.
*To help reduce the risk of changes in pigmentation, IPL treatments at Opal Medical Aesthetics are offered seasonally and will begin November 1st.
IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses targeted pulses of light to treat unwanted pigmentation and visible redness beneath the surface of the skin. The light is absorbed by areas of excess pigment and visible blood vessels, helping to gradually improve discoloration and create a more even skin tone.
IPL can help improve the appearance of:
-
Sun damage and sun spots
-
Brown spots and uneven pigmentation
-
Redness and facial flushing
-
Rosacea
-
Visible blood vessels
-
Uneven skin tone
What areas can be treated?
IPL is commonly used on areas that are frequently exposed to the sun, including the:
-
Face
-
Neck
-
Chest
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed varies depending on your skin concerns and treatment goals. A series of treatments may be recommended for optimal results, followed by occasional maintenance treatments as needed.
What should I expect after IPL?
After treatment, you may experience temporary redness, warmth, or mild swelling. Pigmented areas may temporarily appear darker before gradually fading or flaking away over the following 1-2 weeks. Most people can return to their normal activities shortly after treatment, although sun protection is especially important while the skin is healing.
When will I see results?
Improvements typically develop gradually as treated pigmentation and redness fade. Skin may appear clearer, brighter, and more even in the weeks following treatment.
Is there downtime?
IPL typically requires minimal downtime. Mild redness or swelling may occur after treatment and usually improves quickly. Brown spots may temporarily darken before fading.
Important Sun Exposure Information
IPL should not be performed on recently tanned or significantly sun-exposed skin. To help reduce the risk of changes in pigmentation, IPL treatments at Opal Medical Aesthetics are offered seasonally and will begin November 1st.
You should avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure before and after treatment and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.
Is IPL right for me?
IPL is not appropriate for every skin type or every type of pigmentation. A consultation will help determine whether IPL is the best treatment for your skin concerns and goals.
